I always knew Marty was a big Uli Roth fan. That "crying" vibrato and quarter note bends are something Uli pioneered, if you will, back in the day. Like Marty, Uli had a significant Eastern musical favor to his playing.

I tuned into this because of Marty Friedman not knowing that this Char guy is a tremendous guitarist.

Thorpe's last 100m was 53.23 according to FINA and his final 50m was under 26 seconds, dropping the distance king Hackett. That is unheard of, with the exception of Bobby Finke and *Sun Yang. Char is decent but anyone sitting near Marty just begins to look average. Though what Char plays is well executed, tasteful and sounds nice it is rather obvious when compared to Martys myriad of exotic notes and phrasing.

How the hell did he light another cigarette while playing!! Lol

If all I could ever play is the solo from 4:54 to 6:21, I'd be happy. This improve is better than most recorded solos.
